Be transported to Nohant, the countryside home of novelist George Sand, where Frédéric Chopin and mezzo-soprano Pauline Viardot retreated as guests of the author. There they spent hours at the piano, playing through opera scores and reviving forgotten works while Sand wrote late into the night, listening to their genius as the scent of lime trees filled the summer air. Dzis and Fernando take Chopin's mazurkas, arranged for voice by Viardot, and perform them as they are meant to be heard in an intimate space for a small, captivated audience.
Marlena Dzis, soprano
Dhilanthi Fernando, piano
Program includes selections from "12 Mazurkas for Voice and Piano," composed by Frédéric Chopin and arranged by Pauline Viardot with lyrics by Louis Pomey, including a duet with Ruth Ginelle Heald, mezzo-soprano. The program will also feature Chopin mazurkas presented in their original form by pianist Dhilanthi Fernando. $10 suggested donation.
