CRISTY C. ROAD

"Cristy has always existed to remind us of the strength and ability of
punk youth - for addressing things like rape, homophobia, and mysogyny
(...) giving voice to every frustrated 15 year old girl under fire
from her peers for being queer or butch or punk." -- Microcosm
Publishing

MUSIC

INTERNATIONAL CONTEMPORARY ENSEMBLE'S CLAIRE CHASE
( HYPERLINK "http://www.iceorg.org" www.iceorg.org)

As a soloist, Claire has received top prizes in the National Young
Artist Competition, the International Chamber Orchestra Young Artist
Competition and the National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts
Competition. She made her concerto debut at the age of 15 with the San
Diego Symphony, and her solo recital debut at the John F. Kennedy
Center for the Performing Arts at the age of 17. To date, Claire has
given the world premieres of over 300 new solo works for flute.

THE WINKS
( HYPERLINK "http://www.myspace.com/winks" www.myspace.com/winks)

"The women of the Winks cultivate a saucy, swaggering dynamic that
keeps their otherwise straightforward approach to punk rock ticking...
Penny Tration's guitar is surly and industrial, while Amanda Hugnkiss'
artfully disaffected vox lie somewhere between sneer and pout, lending
credence to the Winks' violently lascivious subject matter." -- Austin
Chronicle.

DIANE CLUCK
( HYPERLINK "http://www.myspace.com/dianecluck" www.myspace.com/dianecluck)

From the ashes of the NYC anti-folk scene and Bianca Casady of
CocoRosie's Voodoo-Eros label comes singer-songwriter Diane Cluck -
"Pensive guitar work builds insistent, complex rhythms and melodies
that one moment wrap tight around one's ribcage, the next, sift and
swirl like sand devils...When an artist's voice is this fine, it's an
added boon to also find lyrical skill and deft instrumentation." --New
York Press.

ANNI ROSSI
( HYPERLINK "http://www.myspace.com/annirossi" www.myspace.com/annirossi)

Recently signed for a seven inch single release with British-American
label Too Pure, viola player Anni Rossi boisterously foot stamps, hand
taps and tongue clicks her way through energetic viola concertos and
minimal guitar solos until audiences are rendered dumbstruck.

FILMS

A program of film and experimental video shorts will be screened at
Heaven Gallery (1550 N. Milwaukee Ave). Crowning off the selection
will be two rare short films by British feminist cultural critic and
filmmaker LAURA MULVEY.

AMY!
A film by Laura Mulvey and Peter Wollen
England, 1980, 30 minutes, Color, DVD projection, English.

Amy Johnson was the first woman to fly solo from Great Britain to
Australia. Mulvey and Wollen's experimental documentary combines
newsreel footage of the aviator's arrival, dramatic recreations of
events from her life and contemporary discussions by feminist groups
on the subject of heroism in this most unconventional biopic.

FRIDA KAHLO AND TINA MODOTTI
A film by Laura Mulvey and Peter Woolen
England, 1983, 29 minutes, Color, DVD projection, English.

Originally commissioned for an international art exhibition this short
film is an unconventional portrait of painter Frida Kahlo and
photographer Tina Modotti. Simple in style but complex in its
analysis, Frida Kahlo and Tina Modotti explores the divergent themes
and styles of two contemporary and radical women artists working in
the upheaval of the aftermath of the Mexican Revolution.
