RIORDAN/LABYCZ DUO Marc Riordan, percussion and piano + WHITE ROCKET Sean Carpio - drums "This trio is one which, given the chance, could make its mark on the international jazz scene." - The Irish Times In 2005 two Dubliners, pianist Greg Felton and drummer Sean Carpio met New York trumpeter Jacob at Banff Centre for Jazz & Creative Music and not for the first time, the famous Canadian artistic retreat has been the catalyst for a memorable first contact. Trumpet, piano and drums may seem an unwieldy combination, but in this music, its personality that counts, and White Rocket have it in abundance. That, and a shared love of the rhythmic systems of India’s carnatic music and everything from Nick Drake and Hindemith to Autechre and Meshuggah. These influences are not overt, but do offer compelling evidence of open musical minds at work. PROTEST HEAVEN Saturday 2/21: CHICAGO SOUNDMAP 2009 Composers: Jim Baker Ensemble: Boris Hauf - Tenor sax, Soprano sax Chicago Sound Map began in 2007 as an annual new music festival taking place in multiple venues throughout the city of Chicago. Each year a selection of composers is invited to devise musical systems that focus on the dualism of composition and improvisation. A large ensemble of experienced improvisers interprets each composer’s proposal. Chicago Sound Map was initiated by Boris Hauf and is curated by Boris Hauf and Michael Hartman. This 3rd installment of CSM features Composers Jim Baker, Kyle Bruckmann on Feb 21 at Heaven Gallery, and Don Malone and Adam Sonderberg on Feb 23 at Chicago Cultural Center. Apart from inevitable alterations, the CSM ensemble has been consistent since its first concerts. Heaven Gallery Donation suggested Sunday February 22, 2009

Approach Track/back: Agency and Anonymity Online in Realtime Ian Hatcher will present an interactive lecture on network presence, emergent and self-regulating systems, and ghosts in the internet. Please bring your laptop to participate.
The Performative Lecture Series is to be free and open to the public, the Harold Family will provide a light brunch for hungry minds. Performers are selected to present performative, interactive, new media technology-driven lectures, and come from the fields of art, dance, performance theory, theater, music, electronic visualization, and electronic writing. Over the course of two hours, they are asked to present a lecture that involves some level of interactive media, theatrical elements, and informative content. They are asked to then conduct a discussion around their performance, the topics discussed in the lecture, and the nature of the technology they implement. Monday February 23, 2009
