The Paris Harp Duo Presents an All-French Program
Presented by the Heaven Gallery Classical Series- January 2nd, 7:00pm

The Paris Harp Duo will present a special program of French Music for harp duet and solo harp on Wednesday, January 2nd, 7pm at the Heaven Gallery, 1550 N. Milwaukee, slightly southeast of the Milwaukee/North/Damen intersection in Wicker Park.
The program for harp duo will feature Bernard Andres’ “Parvis” and “Jardin des Paons,” Jean-Michel Damase’s “Sonatine,” Cesar Franck’s “Prelude, Fugue, and Variations,” and Maurice Ravel’s “Mother Goose Suite.” Harp solos will be Marcel Tournier’s “Image” played by Marta Power and local composer Wes Alexander’s “Limberlost: The Life of the Birdwoman” played by Elizabeth Jaxon. The latter piece was originally written for and premiered by Ms Jaxon.
Tickets, which include a post-concert reception, will be sold at the door for a suggested donation of $10.

The members of the Paris Harp Duo are Elizabeth Jaxon and Marta Power, both of whom are studying and making music careers in Paris, France. The duo strives to bring the richness of two harps to music otherwise beyond the possibilities of a single instrument. With the variety of textures and the increased technical capabilities which two harps allow, they also seek to enrich their instrument's repertoire through transcriptions as well as new compositions.
Elizabeth Jaxon obtained her Bachelor's of Music in harp performance at the University of Illinois (UIUC), under the instruction of Ann Yeung. She is now continuing her studies in Paris with Isabelle Perrin at the Ecole Normale de Musique de Paris, where she earned her Diplôme Supérieur d'Exécution and is pursuing her Diplôme Supérieur de Concertiste. She has successfully participated in several masterclasses and competitions; most recently she was awarded 3rd prize in the Camac harp competition of the North London Festival of Music and 2nd prize at the first international harp competition of Szeged, Hungary.

Marta Power earned her Diplôme Supérieur d'Exécution in Harp Performance from the Ecole Normale de Musique de Paris in 2006, where she is currently pursuing the Diplôme Supérieur de Concertiste under the continued guidance of Isabelle Perrin. In the same year she received her Licence de Musicologie from the Sorbonne University in Paris. Having lived in Paris since 2001, Ms Power has had the opportunity to solo with the Orchestre de la Société Symphonique et Chorale de la Poste et France Télécom as well as participate in several masterclasses. Ms Power has won prizes in many international harp competitions including the 4th International Felix Godefroid Harp Competition in Belgium, the UFAM Competition in Paris, the Camac Harp Competition of the North London Festival of Music and Drama in England, the 12th European Music Competition of Picardy in France, and the Salvi Le Parnasse competition in Paris. She is currently the harp professor at the Académies Inter Musicales de Paris and leads an active private harp studio.
